After years of never leaving the house without my full face make up "mask", im not going to lie it was a journey in itself to let go of the face and person I was. Luckily, I had a little help. I left my life as I knew it and went travelling. Travelling slowly ate up my time in front of the mirror to instead chase an adventure.. which then led to my make up bag being stolen.
During this time I had serve perioral dermatitis around my mouth & eyes which only seems to worsen for a good 6 months. So I understand the confrontation of having something you personally feel uncomfortable with being on YOUR FACE!! I would cover it when I could, embarressed. Until one day I was handed an oil in Peru. Which miraculously made it disappear over night. ( Ask me for more details on this) This experience opened my eyes to natural healing, Oils, diet & Lifestyle.
Over the next few years I discovered Ayurveda and dived deeper into the knowledge of understanding and caring for my Mind, Body, Soul & Sense organs through my diet & lifestyle choices.
Slowly i let go of more and more products until I was left with just my mascara, which to this day I still love to use for a little "pop" on special occasions. Here I began to love and appreciate me and my true beauty and appearance, and my face began shining with only the application of oils (plus diet & lifestyle changes).
5 years on, I can say that I wear a bare face 99.9% of the time. Only on those special occasions I may add a little sparkle here and there, but I notice if I put anything on too Heavy, I actually don't recognise myself, and remove it all. π
Please note that my perioral dermatitis does come and go, related to my diet and & lifestyle (Stress), but now I wear it proudly. Knowing that the cause is in my control, and I feel WAY less ashamed/vulanerable to show my truth to the world.
My advise for anyone wanting to transition to going make up free..
Take your time. Be Kind to yourself. Sit in front of the mirror bare faced and remind yourself about all your (NON PHYSICAL) beautiful qualities. Eliminate things slowly from your regime. Feed your body & soul with fresh food. And Oil, oil, oil Everyday, everywhere π
I would love to hear from others about their Makeup Free transition and what has helped them. And if anyone needs support, I am here. π₯°
